Star Trek: The Experience - Back From the Dead

Greetings!
Some time ago I wrote of the demise of the Las Vegas Hilton’s Star Trek: The Experience.  It would seem that the ever-debaucherous Hilton chain cannot stop the attraction, as it’s currently set to beam stright into Vega’s Downtown district.

Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman “Practically beamed” as he delivered the news, announcing that a local businessman (Rohit Joshi) was deep in talks with CBS licensing regarding the attraction.  With it’s course layed in for Downtown’s Neonopolis, a neon-themed shopping mall thats part of the “Freemont Experience,” inside sources have revealed that the licensing agreement covers both the rides, museum, and Quark’s Bar and Restauraunt.

Materials are already being moved to Freemont, and it is believed that most of the cast and crew will be ofered their old jobs back.  Chad Boutte, former operations manager, has anounced that he will not be returning to the new attraction - he is resettling out of town.

Insiders report that current plans are to launch first the Bar, restaurant, and wedding-bridge will be reassembled (as close to original as possible), with the rides soon to follow.  Many of the former employees I spoke to have great interest in retruning to the new attraction - ranging from actors to retail staff.

No updates will occur initially, but the plans are to at least have some of it open by the new movie’s release date.  Future updates to the somewhat-aged attraction are on the table.

More news to come later on the status of the Hilton’s Experience disassembly.

LotRO & Computers

The Mines of Moria Expansion for Lord of the Rings Online has been opened for pre-order.

The release date has finally been announced as well - November 18!  This humble blog-author pre-ordered his downlodable version this morning.

In other news, I have purchased a new computer.  It is an Alienware Aurora, and it is large, amazingly beautiful in design, and a substantial powerhouse:

AMD Phenom 9950 Black Edition @ 2.6GHz (Currently overclocked to 2.8GHz, it’s liquid cooled so there’s room for more but I havent tuned yet)
4 GB Ram @ 800 MHz
250 GB 7200 RPM Drive (with plans to upgrade to WD Raptor which is 300GB @ 10K RPM)
2 ATI Radeon HD4870 GDDR5 512MB cards running in CrossFire config
Creative 7.1 X-Fi Sound Card
AGEIA PhysX PPU 100 Physics Processor Card (not as impressed with this as I thought I’d  be)
And finally, it runs on an ASUS board that I cant currently remember the model of.

My 3dMark 06 Benchmark score is about 14,500 with the cards in CrossFire, and about 12,800 with the CrossFire turned off.  Crysis runs beautifully on Very High settings with 2X AA, I get 28-40 FPS, with the average being about 35-38.  The motion blur, and being submerged in bubbley water are the only things to bring it down to 28 thus far.

I should have planned my purchase date better - all this school work is getting in the way of some seriously beautiful gaming!

Misc.

I have discovered that Leonard Nimoy supports Barrack Obama.  This brings to mind a new and effective campaign slogan  along the lines of, “Vote for Barrack Obama - The logical choice.”
